Features and Differences of JBL’s True Wireless Earphones with Noise Cancellation Available at Sound House

Theme:sound&person, Audio equipment

Nice to meet you.
My name is Kohta Nekoi and I’m here writing an earphone blog.
My main content is comparisons of noise-canceling earphones.

This time, I would like to introduce JBL's fully wireless earphones with noise canceling function.
Even though the noise canceling function is called “noise canceling,” it works differently depending on the model.
There are currently three types of JBL fully wireless earphones with noise cancellation available at Sound House, but I think it’s difficult to differentiate between the three just by looking at the specifications.

So, I’m going to explain the differences in noise canceling effect and other features of the earphones that I experienced when I tried them out. I hope this will be helpful in your selection of earphones.

JBL / TOUR PRO 2

JBL / TOUR PRO 2

Available in March, 2023
29,700 yen (tax included)
Continuous playback time: 10 hours/40 hours (including case)
Supported codecs: SBC, AAC
Waterproof performance: IPX5

This is JBL's new flagship model.
It was highlighted as the world's first fully wireless earphones with a smart display.
Through the display attached to the earphone case, users can not only send songs, but also change the equalizer and receive incoming calls.
I found the noise cancellation to be the most powerful of all JBL products. It cuts bass noise significantly and is also effective for mid-range and high-range noise such as human voices. Since it cuts noise even in intense noisy environments such as trains, it also helps to reduce the burden on the ears by preventing excessive volume increases.

The sound quality aspect is JBL's standard groovy sound. The bass is quite rich.
You will enjoy a powerful and rewarding sound with EDM and rock music.
The TOUR PRO 2 is equipped with a sound quality optimization function that complements hard-to-hear sounds through a hearing test, and when I actually tried it out, the clarity and visibility of the sound clearly improved.

I found the fit to be both comfortable and lightweight.
While the earphones are light enough to wear for everyday use without ear fatigue, they also fit well enough to be used during jogging or other physical activities. I think the workmanship is worthy enough to be a high-end device.

Other features include multi-point, which allows two devices to be connected at the same time, and low latency mode, making it one of the best fully wireless earphones on the market. These high-performance earphones are worthy of the high-end products of JBL, the world's leading audio manufacturer.

JBL / LIVE FREE 2

JBL / LIVE FREE 2

Available in April, 2022
11,800 yen (including tax)
Continuous playback time: 7/28 hours (including case)
Supported codecs: SBC, AAC
Waterproof performance: IPX5

Despite its middle-class price, the JBL-esque high-quality sound and high-end functions are as good as the high-end models. These fully wireless earbuds have exploded in popularity due to their excellent value.

I felt that the noise canceling function was able to cut bass noise well. I could also feel some effect on mid-range and high-range noise. I can concentrate on music or work without worrying about ambient noise when the noise level is about the same as in a room, and the effect is very different when not using it on trains.

The sound quality is clear and vibrant, just like JBL. I think they make any kind of music sound light and fun.

The fit is lightweight and comfortable, and it doesn’t need to be inserted deep into the ear canal. I had no trouble wearing them for long periods of time while out and about on holidays.

It has all the features I want, including multi-point, low latency mode, and equalizer.
I think these earphones have a good balance of sound quality, functionality, and ease of use, all of which make them extremely satisfying.

JBL / Tune Flex Ghost Edition

JBL / Tune Flex Ghost Edition

On sale in October, 2022
11,880 yen (tax included)
Continuous playback time: 8 hours/32 hours (including case)
Supported codecs: SBC, AAC
Waterproof performance: IPX4

These fully wireless earphones have the interesting feature of becoming both an inner-ear type and a canal type by replacing the ear tips.
The standard inner-ear type allows outside sound to be taken in naturally, making it suitable for listening while moving. An outside sound capturing function is also provided, but even without using the function, the outside sound can be heard properly.
As for the sound quality, you can enjoy very clear mid-high sound utilizing the characteristics of the inner-ear type.
The volume of the bass sound is sufficient enough to support the entire sound, and it can handle songs that require some heavier bass power.

I found them to be very comfortable to wear, as they do not block the ears, so there is no sense of rubbing. These earphones are so slight that I can wear them as long as I want.
If you replace the ear tips with canal type earphones, the fit will be better and the sound insulation will improve.
The sound quality also changes as the fit changes, but in the case of Tune Flex, there is a function that optimizes the sound quality for each wearing style, so I felt that the sound trend is almost the same regardless of which way you wear the earbuds.

Personally, I recommend the inner-ear type, which allows for better sound transmission and a more comfortable listening experience, when you want to focus on listening.
The canal type fits better, so I felt the canal type was better when I wanted to use it in crowds or for light jogging.
The noise canceling function is not so strong compared to TOUR PRO 2 and LIVE FREE 2.
Therefore, I think these earphones are best suited for those who want to take advantage of the features of the inner-ear type for better sound extraction when listening while moving, and they have a comfortable fit.

■ Final thoughts

This is a brief introduction of my impressions of the three noise-canceling fully wireless earphones from JBL.

Although it may vary from person to person, the effectiveness of the noise canceling function is as follows.
TOUR PRO 2 > LIVE FREE 2 >> Tune Flex
I felt that the effectiveness of the noise canceling function ranked from TOUR PRO 2 > LIVE FREE 2 > Tune Flex.

  • If you are looking for the best value for money, LIVE FREE 2 is the best choice.
  • TOUR PRO 2 is for those who are attracted to high-end functions such as smart display and sound quality optimization.
  • If you value clear sound, Tune Flex is great, listening while moving with amazing wearing comfort.

I think it would be better to choose in this way.
If you are interested in any of these earphones, please give them a try!
