Learning from Angus Young, Headbanging method that doesn’t hurt your neck [Guitarist Posture Analysis]

Hello!
My name is Fujioka Takuto and I am a "guitarist with a good posture".

It's getting colder, but how are you doing?
When it gets cold, my hands hurt when I'm playing the guitar and I can't help it... Is there any good way to deal with it? (; ;) Winter is my favorite season, but it's depressing that it so cold.

Well, back to the topic in the title!
If you're a guitarist, I'm sure you've dreamt about it at least once... headbanging!
Have you ever had the experience where you were playing or watching a live performance, you got excited and you noticed you were banging your head? Of course, it depends on the music genre, but I personally think that it's an obligatory action for rock performances.
However, if you do it with momentum... it's dangerous and can hurt your neck, make you feel sick, and harm your physical health. Lol

Meanwhile, I thought, "who is the guitarist who can headbang with the least strain on the body?"
I watched as many live band videos, I found who it is.
It's Angus Young, the guitarist from AC/DC. This is a strong personal opinion, but I later looked it up and learned that Angus Young is said to be the inventor of headbanging. Cool!
Please search this and "Angus Young" on YouTube

His headbanging is different from that of other guitarists. Despite his strenuous movements, he runs around the stage playing guitar solos.
I think there are some parts that ordinary people will not be able to imitate, but I believe there are always secrets, so let's analyze his posture!!
(This article is just a posture analysis. It is not to encourage you to go around headbanging. Please do not overdo it for your body's sake.)

The most important thing to keep in mind when headbanging is how to move your neck.
Looking at Angus Young's headbanging technique, he has strangely good posture despite banging his head.If you look closely, you can see that the head is moving from the base. To do this, the movement of the atlanto-occipital joint, which has come up many times in my articles, is important.
The boundary between the red part and the back of the head is the atlanto-occipital joint (AO joint).

It is said that the atlanto-occipital joint is responsible for 50% of the flexion/extension (bending/stretching) movement of the neck.
However, people who don't know this fact often try to move the neck from the base of the shoulders to the center of the neck, and the movement of the atlanto-occipital joint often doesn't do the necessary work. If you move your head without moving the atlanto-occipital joint, your trunk will shake. In other words, the muscles and joints around the neck, shoulders, and chest try to replace the atlas-occipital joint role, which puts more strain on the body than it should.

By using the atlanto-occipital joint correctly, the burden on the body can be minimized while making a vigorous movement like headbanging, and I think it isn't necessarily harmful to the performance of the act itself. Even though he is so intense, he never goes out of tune as a matter of course. It's too amazing.
When covering AC/DC, it may be good to master the movement of the atlanto-occipital joint first! Lol
If you try to move it on a regular basis, it prevents stiff shoulders. I recommend it.

Angus Young is probably performing without considering the joint movements as discussed here. I think the movements and his posture matches the headbanging motion in a good way. Both his posture and movements are profound.
I'm happy if this article will help you realize the importance of posture.
