The ultimate physical modeling bass sound source

After eight years of long, long-term joint research and development between the University of Padua, one of the oldest universities in Europe, and IK, which has steadily built up a track record in analog modeling technology for guitar amps and effects, we are finally ready to deliver this virtual instrument product. The sound is truly real. With this latest virtual instrument, you can get a realistic and reliable sound as if it was played by a skilled bassist.

MODO BASS is based on a completely new technology that redefines computer-based virtual instruments. MODO BASS is not a sample-based instrument. MODO BASS is a bass sound source based on the concept of physical modeling, which synthesizes sounds in real time based on physical models of all aspects that form the final bass sound. First, the bass itself as an instrument is modeled. Not only the body material, strings, pickups, and wiring that make up the bass, but even their interactions are modeled. In addition, various playing techniques, amplifiers, and effects are modeled. Then, based on the physical models of the characteristics and playing techniques of these actual instruments, the sound is synthesized in real time.

Real-time sound synthesis

MODO BASS's sound engine is based on a new technology called real-time modal synthesis. You can play MODO BASS with the same response and feel as if you were playing a real instrument.

In the case of sample-based instruments, sample data that captures a certain moment of performance is played. To express subtle nuances, a lot of sample data that captures various nuances is required, and it is necessary to switch between them when playing. Considering the limits of computer memory capacity, unfortunately, there are inevitably limitations to the expressiveness of the instrument.

MODO BASS, which is based on a physical model, can be played in the same way as playing a real instrument, rather than playing data recorded as samples. The sound is synthesized in real time, so the same data is not played every time. Even if the MIDI data used to play is exactly the same, the sound will be played with slightly different nuances each time. And the interaction between the physical model of the instrument, pickup, and playing style and the performance allows you to play with a thick, solid bass sound that is comfortable to play and sets it apart from conventional physical modeling sound sources, a sound that can be said to be ""sensual"" in a sense.

Two fretless bass models have been added to MODO BASS. The ""Fretless Jazz"" is based on the Fender Jazz Bass customized by Jaco Pastorius, and has a tone and dynamics that are instantly recognizable. The ""Fretless Bass Man"" is based on the Music Man StingRay, famously played by Pino Palladino, and offers bass sounds that are just like the classics of Paul Young, Don Henley, and others. In addition to these two new fretless basses, MODO BASS 2 can also model 18 other electric basses as fretless.

## Upright bass also available.
In addition to the fretless, the upright bass, which was highly requested by existing MODO BASS users, has also been added. There are two models available: ""Upright Studio,"" which references the double bass used in classic jazz, and ""Rockabilly,"" which references the nylon-string double bass that is perfect for rockabilly, which uses a lot of slap. You can choose the one that suits your musical style.

## Added pattern playing function
MODO BASS 2 adds a ""PATTERNS"" screen with smart filters that allow you to browse by various conditions, such as genre, song section, playing style, length, and time signature. You can find what you need by listening to each pattern, from patterns for bass tracks that support your songs to solo phrases. MODO BASS is often said to have a human touch even when played flat, but each phrase in ""PATTERNS"" was recorded by a professional bass player, so you can play it in sync with the tempo of your DAW with an even more vivid and amazing groove and feeling.
