Let’s Try Out VoiSona!

VOCALOID P. These are people who create songs for the world using VOCALOIDs such as Hatsune Miku.

This seems to be a definition that everyone can agree on, but in fact, this common knowledge has changed a little in recent years. This is because, in addition to VOCALOID, many other voice synthesizers such as CeVIO AI and Synthesizer V have also emerged in the past few years. In other words, the term “VOCALOID” has come to be defined in a broad sense as "virtual singers as a whole”. In this article, “vocaloids” will be used to refer to all singing voice synthesizers.

In the past, composers could choose Miku, GUMI, or flower for vocaloids or even free software like UTAU! I think that the range of Vocaloid Ps has expanded considerably.

By the way, although I do not call myself a Vocaloid P, I have posted a number of songs using VoiSona, a type of Vocaloid. In this sense, VoiSona is becoming an indispensable part of my musical activities.

In this article, I would like to introduce VoiSona, my favorite Vocaloid library, its features, charms, and recommended libraries.

What is VoiSona?

VoiSona is an AI singing software developed by TechnoSpeech, Inc. TechnoSpeech is the company that developed “CeVIO AI” with virtual singers such as Kai Fu and Hoshikai, and more. VoiSona was also initially released in an alpha version under the name “CeVIO Pro,” but please note that the two are not compatible.

The features of VoiSona are as follows

01 Human-like singing voice

AI technology is used to precisely simulate the human singing voice. It can easily produce expressions such as breath, vibrato, and belting, making it the best choice for those who prefer natural and smooth singing. Instead, it seems to be more reckless for humans to do difficult singing with high tones, fast speech, and no breath holding, which are VOCALOID's strong points.
It is important to choose VOCALOIDs according to the expression you want to make, rather than choosing by whose voice is better. Of course, using the same vocaloids as your favorite vocaloids is also a good option!

02 Runs on DAW or standalone

The company's earlier CeVIO AI could not be used as a plug-in for a DAW. VoiSona improves upon this, and it can be used as a VST/AU on both Windows and Mac.
Of course, VoiSona can also be used as a standalone application, so it can be used according to the style of each vocaloid artist. In fact, I use about half VST and half standalone.

03 Free Basics, Library in Subscription Format

It’s not only free to use the editor software on VoiSona, but the default library, “Chigoe” is also free. Do not underestimate the free features of VoiSona. As I will explain in detail later, Chigoe's quality is on par with other libraries.
The other libraries can be used with a subscription, which will allow you to use them in duets with multiple singers, according to your mood, or make them available only for the duration of the production.

01 Chisei

This is my favorite library. I have used Chisei for most of the songs I have produced, and here is one of them.
I feel that Chisei can be used to sing songs with a mature atmosphere as well as songs that seem a bit juvenile.
I like to sing at a slightly lower pitch, which is often used in the A melody. I feel that it has a core and is full of emotion.
As the range goes higher, the blurring and back-tone become more noticeable, so it is best to use the “falsetto (head voice)” feature, which can be applied by typing “*” in front of the lyrics. I was unaware of this feature and was not able to use the high notes well. ......

02 KIRUNE

This library features Sho Kiryuin of Golden Bomber as the CV. Vocaloids tend to have more female libraries, so I recommend this for those who want a male voice. Fans of Sho Kiryuin should also check it out!
Personally, I really like the high pitched tones of his natural voice used in choruses and other songs. I think these characteristics would be a good match for rock and other types of music.
This demo clearly shows the excellence of the AI in VoiSona. The long tones in the chorus part of “Tsuraiyo” have a very natural pitch fluctuation, even though it has not been edited at all. It is a great advantage to be able to create a vocal part with a high degree of perfection even if you are just starting out as a Vocaloid P.

03 #kzn (Kizuna)

Last but not least is #kzn, a virtual singer born from the voice of Kizuna Ai.
This song was created using #kzn, and to my surprise, it is the ending theme of the anime as it is!
Presented as a hub for everyone to connect in place of the sleeping Kizuna Ai, #kzn has shown more than enough perfection to reach that goal.
Since #kzn has a cute voice, it is tempting to match it with an equally cute idol song, but with this song, they dared to try a more intense song, pushing the limits of their wide range. He may become an indispensable figure in the creation of the pop genre.
