[CULT Maxon OD-820 Secede from T.S. mod.] Review video, distortion sound that has the features of the Centaur and the Tube Screamer.

Today, I would like to introduce the CULT Maxon OD-820 Secede from T.S. mod.

First of all, pls watch the video below.

This Cult Maxon OD-820 was modified by Susumu Tamura, the developer of the Tube Screamer, released from Cult, which I introduced in the previous column.

Because of that, the distortion sound is similar to the Tube Screamer released by Cult, and because it has a clean mix circuit, you can get a feeling of Klon's Centaur.
Therefore, it has the features of both the Tube Screamer and the Centaur.

○ Features of CULT Maxon OD-820 Secede from T.S. mod

1. It has a trimmer that can adjust the amount of clean and distortion sound.
This trimmer is the biggest feature. The distortion is basically the same as the Tube Screamer, but if you increase the amount of clean sound, it becomes clearer, and is not blurred. There is also an attack, so the sound is not round like the Tube Screamer.

２、レンジが広く、分離に優れているためチューブスクリーマーより幅広い音作りが出来る。
レンジが広いため、はっきりとコードの分離も聴き取れ、ニュアンスもチューブスクリーマーより付けやすいです。 またレンジが広いことにより、チューブスクリーマーのようにミドルに音域が偏っているわけでもなく、 様々なジャンルに使うことが出来ると思います。
チューブスクリーマーは、低音が削れられ、ミドルをフォーカスするという印象ですが、 このCultのmodは、低音が削られることもなくミドルに偏り切るということもないです。

3. Output level is high.
The output level is high. It feels like the volume balance between ON and OFF is the same when the knob is at around 9 o'clock. So I think you'll be surprised if you set the level to 12 o'clock to start with.

○ How it is different compared to the Cult TS808?

If you are looking for an orthodox ordinary good Tube Screamer, I recommend the TS-808.
The Cult OD-820 is an evolution of the Tube Screamer and is still different from the standard TS-808 sound.
The distortion is the same as the TS-808, but if you want a traditional sound, it is better not to use the OD-820.
On the other hand, if you don't like the distortion of the Centaur and you prefer a sound like the Tube Screamer, I recommend the Cult OD-820.
Both are good effectors, and whichever you buy, you won't regret it.

I think the OD-820 is a good, interesting overdrive. The distortion is like the Tube Screamer, and the feeling is like the Klon Centaur. There is no distortion like this, and if you like it, I recommend you to get one. Adjusting the amount of the clean sound using the trimmer is the key, and it is quite convenient because you can also change the settings according to the player and compatibility with other equipment. Also, by adjusting it, you can make the sound clearer, and you can use it both as a booster and an overdrive.
