The Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12 Module is a 12-voice polyphonic synthesizer with a digital/analog hybrid design, designed from the ground up by Dave Smith, the synthesizer master known for creating numerous classic instruments, including the legendary SCI Prophet-5.

The Prophet 12 Module is a tabletop/rackmount model that packs the same power and sound as its keyboard counterpart into an incredibly slim and compact body. The highly visible, informative OLED display and soft knob and soft key editing provide streamlined operation for comfortable operation.

Each voice features a DSP-based oscillator with features such as shape modulation, FM, AM, hard sync, and a sub-oscillator, allowing for a wide range of sound variations. Between the oscillator and filter is a ""Character"" section, which allows for five parameters to apply digital effects to the sound generated by the oscillator before it passes through the filter. The filters feature analog low-pass and high-pass filters using Curtis chips.

It also offers many features, including adjustable feedback, a digital delay for each voice, four LFOs, freely assignable envelopes 3 and 4, and numerous modulation paths that dramatically expand the sound-shaping possibilities.
