■JENSEN
JENSEN is a company that sells replacement speaker units for guitar and bass amplifiers. They rose to fame in the 1940s when Fender founder Leo Fender chose JENSEN speakers. While production was temporarily discontinued in the late 1960s, it resumed in the 1990s at the Italian speaker manufacturer SICA Altoparlanti. JENSEN is a pioneering speaker unit that has paved the way for a new era.

The legendary Alnico speaker series was installed in Fender Vintage Tweed amplifiers from the 1950s. This model was designed in the late 1940s to early 1950s and uses an alnico magnet. It produces a rich, clean tone with the distinctive mid-low range that alnico magnets are known for. This is the original alnico vintage speaker that enthusiasts have long sought.

音も物もいいです。が、

20年ほど使っているパール時代のpeaveyクラシック30に。
色々へたってきているし、アルニコだとどうなるのだろう、ということで、お気に入りのクラシック30に載せてみました。
なるほど、激変しました。得意な音域が変わりましたね。やはり高い方が明確です。低音もゴーンゴーンからコォンコォンと締まってきました。そのせいか音の解像度が上がっているとおもいます。
だからといって、以前の純正が悪いかというと、そうでもないところが難しい。
純正が、トリオなんかのロックバンドに向いているとすれば、ジェンセンのこれは、きちんとアンサンブルを整え、控えめに演奏しても、出しゃばることなく、はっきりと存在感を示すことの出来る音を作ります。質は別として、どちらも悪くないので戸惑います。
でも、元に戻すことはないですね。力のある音が出ますから。
不安だったのは、箱鳴りが減ったこと。現在ではだいぶ良くなりましたが、載せ変え当初は、お気に入りの箱鳴りが、ほぼ感じられなくなり、びびりました。
改めて気づきましたが、この箱鳴りも、時間をかけて馴染ませて、生まれたものだったんですよね。
今回、思い知ったことは、コンボアンプのスピーカーを変えることは、大げさではなくアンプを買い替えるくらいの変化をもたらすものだった、ということです。
お気に入りのアンプであれば、たとえ評判の良いスピーカーであったとしても、それなりの覚悟は必要ですよ。
