The 517 is a 500 Series module based on the Portico 5017 mobile preamplifier. It's a multi-function module featuring a world-class transformer-coupled mic preamplifier, compressor, DI with variphase function, Silk circuitry, and DI/mic blending.

■ Main Features

Compression
The 517 is equipped with a single-knob compressor. The Compression knob sets the signal level at which the compressor engages. The compressor engages when the signal level reaches or exceeds the set value. The 517's compression ratio is fixed at 2:1. This knob is also designed to automatically recover (make up) any output gain limitations.

Gain
Gain provides 0 dB to 66 dB of amplification for microphone signals from a 500 Series rack. Gain for signals from the INST (DI) input is provided from 0 dB to 30 dB.

INST Input
This is a balanced or unbalanced high-impedance input for connecting instruments. The signal input from this jack is distributed directly to the THRU jack, making it convenient for connecting simultaneously to an instrument amplifier.

*Because Rupert Neve Designs' 500 series products are mounted on a dedicated rack chassis, the panel areas that are not visible when the chassis is mounted, except for the front panel, are manufactured with the assumption that scratches will occur during the manufacturing process or inspection at the manufacturer. Even new products may have scratches in these areas, but please note that this is not a product defect.
