気難しい優等生？

冒頭に自分の話で恐縮ですが、現在、HD800、HD650、AH-D5000、ATH-W5000、K702、RS1i、STAXのSR-007A他10本程度を所有しているヘッドホン・スパイラル患者です。
今回、サウンドハウスさんから購入したMS-PROを取り出して外観を確認しましたが、RS1e互換である証の赤いドライバ・ユニット（ハウジング側に初期のような出っ張りはありません）と、意外や本国と同じ茶色の上質な本皮ヘッドバンド、GRADO謹製と違い柔らかくて癖のないケーブルと、安心のアレッサンドロ仕様で、割高なGRADO商品を思えばお買い得でしょう。
さて、肝心の音はと言うと、予想に違わず先代モデルとは全くの別物でした。
批判を恐れず言えば、やや非力な40mmドライバの能力を無理やりドーピングしたような高音偏重のいわゆるGRADOサウンドより、確実に音質は向上していると思います。
高音は必要十分に明瞭で伸びがあり、中・低音は相当厚みが増した上に、全体的な音の分離はAH-D5000などの密閉型ヘッドホンに遜色なく、それぞれの音がしっかりと主張してくれます。
また、ゾネホンを思わせる反応の早さ（キレ）があり、それでいて耳に刺さる音とはならないため、聴き疲れしない＆弾むような心地よいサウンドを聴かせてくれます。
空気が動く快感を感じられるのも特筆すべき長所です。音の素性の良さと相まって、半端なサラウンド対応ヘッドホンを使うより余程気持ち良いのですが、これはマホガニー製のハウジングが一役買っているのかも知れません。
ここまでだと当機をベタ褒めする内容になってしまいますが、ヘッドホン装着のポジショニングが非常にシビアだという欠点もあります。
恐らくは、サウンド・ユニットを更新したのにハウジング周りをリビルドせず、部材を使い回す際にも十分なチューニングをしなかったためではないかと思われます。個人的には一発で装着を決めるために、もう5mmくらい丈の高い（厚みの有る）イヤーパッドが欲しいところです。
ともあれ当機は、気難しいところはあるものの、手放さずに長く聴き込みたくなる個性を持った、優れたヘッドホンだと思います。良い買い物が出来ました。
