■Clyde McCoy was a trumpet player in big bands in the 1960s. Aside from his fame as a musician, he was known for his wah-wah mute technique. It's well-known that his playing style inspired the development of VOX pedals. Hendrix and Clapton both used VOX ""Clyde McCoy"" models. A photo of Jimi Hendrix from the recording of ""Electric Ladyland"" shows a signature model pedal with Clyde McCoy's signature on the bottom. The signature model's ""halo"" inductor, with its excellent sound, served as the basis for the development of the full-tone Clyde model. Furthermore, Mike Fuller selected the best inductor from his collection of over 25 vintage VOX wah pedals and analyzed it from every angle, identifying individual variations in the inductor as a problem. These variations could reach up to 30%, with the worst case measuring 360mH when it should have been 500mH. Fulltone's inductors are handmade with tuned cores and feature the same type of wire and current capacity as the golden age of 1960s VOX pedals. While their manufacturing costs are high, they produce a fantastic sound. Fulltone inductors are interchangeable with most wah pedals, so try them out and hear the difference. The circuit board also uses carbon resistors, the capacitors are Mylar tracon capacitors for a vintage sound, and there's a built-in resonance control that adjusts gain and bass characteristics. The resonance control is the only Fulltone-exclusive option that's different from the original 1960s VOX, and it's easily adjustable by simply opening the bottom panel. The potentiometer is often the most overlooked component in the circuit, but it's the key to a good wah sound. However, tapered potentiometers, like those used in many major handmade wah pedals like the 1960s ""Eiker,"" no longer exist. This explains why wah pedals from the 1970s through the 1990s sound so ugly. The full-range potentiometers, developed by FULLTONE, are constructed from double-screened carbon, achieving a significant swing life of 150,000 strokes compared to the 15,000 strokes of mass-produced potentiometers. While VOX-style cases are widely used, they lack potentiometer range and conductivity. This limits the tone curve and sacrifices tension and feel. The FULLTONE ""Clyde"" uses a unique, custom-welded steel case, ensuring conductivity not found in previous cases. The moving shaft also features a unique ""NYLOK nut,"" allowing you to adjust the pedal's stiffness.
■ Like other FULLTONE pedals, the Clyde Wah features a true bypass switch, completely bypassing the circuit when the effect is off, maintaining a direct sound.
■ This latest model features a Buffer Level and On/Off mini switch.
