Talisman Ghost expands on the original Talisman pedal by modulating and simulating two EMT140 plates, adding a chorus-like effect to your reverb trail.
At Catalinbread, we strive to create devices that are accurate models of vintage equipment, but reimagining old technology means pushing the boundaries of what's possible. Sometimes you can increase the damping of a spring reverb so much that it simulates a much larger spring than what's in the amp, or it can sound like a room reverb if the room were infinite square feet. In the field of plate reverb, Talisman is already pushing the boundaries of authentic EMT 140 sound. For this pedal, we extended the propulsion of the EMT 140, a giant metal plate suspended from a frame with springs and clamps, and added some classy embellishments designed to create control where there was none before.
TalismanGhost takes a step outside of that framework and answers the question, ""What happens when you configure two EMT140 plate units to work in modulated tandem?"" The result is an attractive chorus-like effect that only applies to the reverb trail. This fundamentally re-engineered sound is enhanced by careful consideration of the dispersion properties of the actual EMT 140 and the luxury of running a second 600-pound behemoth in parallel, something most studios don't have.
This flavorful modulation creates a sound where the two plates blend together in a satisfying way, dramatically expanding the spatial effect of the reverb. This creates a clever post-process doubling effect that gives a sense of dynamics to the normally static reverb decay.
