CATALINBREAD / FUZZRITE GERMANIUM

Catalinbread Fuzzrite / Fuzzrite Germanium is a fuzz pedal that recreates the ferocious garage fuzz of yesteryear.

From 1966 to 1968, the fuzz pedal produced by Mosrite was available in two different circuit versions.
Of these, the version using germanium transistors is by far the rarest, and Ed Sanner, who designed the original pedal, estimates that around 250 were shipped.
It was later changed to a silicon transistor version.
Iron Butterfly's ""In-A-Gada-Da-Vida"" and Strawberry Alarm Clock's ""Incence and Peppermints"" are famous for using Mosrite's ""Fuzzrite"", but these were recorded specifically before they were changed to the silicon version.
At Catalinbread, we had the opportunity to use this germanium version at our disposal, and while using it as a benchmark, we also added a modern mode to recreate this sound.
It faithfully reproduces the 60's circuit and creates a lively and dignified tone with splat.
Add gain and brightness with the Depth control, and adjust the overall volume with the Volume knob.
Select Modern mode with the V/M switch to enhance the low end for modern rigs.
You can also control the gain with the Volume control on the guitar, and by increasing the Depth, you can get that dense sound.
The beautiful dark and clear tone when Depth is lowered is also attractive. The sound when the Depth is lowered is completely different from the sound when the Depth is set high and the guitar Volume is lowered.Although it is a simple pedal with only two knobs, it is a fuzz pedal that can have various expressions depending on your picking, play style, settings, etc.
It is also effective when used as a base.
By using a polar inverter IC, the same NOS PNP germanium semiconductor as the original can be driven with a standard power supply.
