Catalinbread SOFT FOCUS Deluxe is an all-in-one shoegaze pedal that allows you to create shoegaze tones with just one unit. It can be said to be the final form of shoegaze.

YAMAHA's half-rack multi-effector ""FX500"" was sold from around 1989 to around 1992.
The ""SOFT FOCUS"" patch included there was widely used by shoegaze bands in the early '90s, including Slowdive's second album ""Souvlaki.""
Shoegaze is a genre that gets its name from the way musicians perform on stage while looking at the pedals.
Distortion, delay, compression, and reverb are the basics of the sound, but at the time shoegaze was born, there were few stompboxes that could rely on these effects. These sounds were included in the FX500's ""SOFT FOCUS"" patch. The core of the original model's sound is a reverb that combines mild pitch shifting and chorus-style modulation.
The FX500 also included light compression and delay lines before and after the reverb.
SOFT FOCUS Deluxe also reproduces this delay line. It is now possible to set delay line parameters that could not be adjusted on the FX500.
SOFT FOCUS Deluxe adds a delay function that was not available in the regular version, and allows you to control parameters of 6 types of programs.
Then, blend in harmonically rich Opamp Drive high-gain distortion with fixed gain to create wide shoegaze soundscapes and textures. You can switch the connection between distortion and space. In SERIES mode, the distortion is blended with clean and then output to the reverb delay. In PARALLEL mode, distortion and reverb delay are mixed in parallel.
Distortion can be turned on and off individually with a footswitch, so you can use it with just the reverb delay or just the distortion.

Remote control of parameters is now possible from the TAP/EXP terminal. It can be operated with an expression pedal or CB Tap. This is a perfect pedal that covers the entire spectrum of shoegaze tones.
