There are two types of players who seek octave down boxes. Some players want a video game-style square wave with plenty of overtones, while others want a clean octave down to compensate for the low frequencies.
Most octaves can only cover one or the other, but Catalinbread Perseus DIO is different.
A 3-channel mixer that can mix dry signals, 1 octave lower and 2 octave lower, can be combined with powerful low-pass filters for each octave channel. By mixing the volume of each channel to a balanced value and turning the FILTER knob, you can cover everything from intense square waves to clean octaves.
You can mix the dry signal to create a 3-voice thick tone, cut the dry signal and output only the bass, or use only the dry signal to boost.
Catalinbread Perseus was a pioneer in mixing analog octave down and fuzz. This is how to create the legendary Riff Face of guitarists.
Perseus DIO is the legitimate successor model of Perseus. A 3-voice, all-analog octave down device with a controllable filter that greatly expands on the original Perseus concept.
The DRY and two DOWN knobs control the mixer section, allowing you to combine 1-octave, 2-octave down and dry signals to create boosted distortion.
The DRY knob alone gives you enough light distortion sound to overdrive your amp, but combine the octave-down signal with a low-pass filter and you're in for even more fun.
Without a filter, the octave becomes a harmonic-rich square wave, similar to the sound of old video games.
Raising the FILTER knob will smooth out the overtones and create a clean octave down.
