The A231 is a large diaphragm condenser microphone designed, assembled, and tested at Audix's headquarters in the United States for experienced studio engineers. Equipped with an externally biased condenser capsule with cardioid characteristics and low-noise circuitry, the A231 is able to capture not only the nuances of the human voice, but also the natural warmth and amazing detail of overtones from acoustic instruments.

The large diameter 33mm condenser capsule installed in the A231 uses a diaphragm that is precisely covered with a proprietary heat-treated film that is coated with gold to the entire edge of the diaphragm. This increases the effective area of the diaphragm by 25% compared to typical large diaphragm microphone capsules. By adopting a driven shield and unique impedance control between the microphone capsule and the board, we achieve consistent high reliability in a variety of environments.
The A231's double-woven steel mesh minimizes acoustic reflection and diffraction for crystal clear sound. In addition, a built-in shock mount reduces the impact of touch noise and vibration on the microphone capsule, eliminating the need for an external shock mount.
