Main Features
1. Equipped with the newly developed virtual analog sound source “AN-X”, greatly enhancing sound expression.
The “Motion Control Synthesis Engine”, the most distinctive feature of the MONTAGE series, is a total sound source system that combines a “hybrid sound source” with “Motion Control”, which realizes complex continuous changes in sound using a variety of control sources.
In the MONTAGE M series, the “Hybrid Sound Source” that forms the core of this sound source system has been augmented with the newly developed AN-X, a virtual analog sound source with a polyphony of up to 16 notes. With a focus on the oscillator section, it has a variety of highly flexible modulation and waveform deformation functions, and is a sound source that combines elements of tradition and innovation, capable of expressing everything from vintage sounds to edgy, extreme sounds. Together with the 8-operator, up to 128-note polyphonic FM sound engine “FM-X”, and the sound engine “AWM2” (maximum 256 polyphonic) that doubles the built-in waveform and has more detailed sound, a total of up to 400 simultaneous notes can be played with the three sound engines.
The AN-X sound source, which produces thick, warm analog sounds; the FM-X sound source, which produces unique digital sounds; and the AWM2 sound source, which produces realistic acoustic sounds, combined with Motion Control, which allows you to control these sound sources in complex ways, give you a unique and overwhelming ability to express sound.
2. Control that gives sound a lively sense of movement
Motion Control, which is another core element of the Motion Control Synthesis Engine, allows you to smoothly change the sound by manipulating the controller, giving the sound a lively sense of dynamism. The MONTAGE M series has a variety of control sources, but two of its distinctive features are the Super Knob and Motion Sequencer.
The Super Knob is a knob that can control up to 280 parameters at once, allowing you to express dynamic changes in sound with simple operations. The Motion Sequencer allows you to set and play back parameter changes using up to 8+1 controllers (8 for parts, 1 for the Super Knob), allowing you to change the sound in a multilayered and complex way while you play. In addition, the MONTAGE M series also features an Audio Beat Sync function that automatically detects the beat of audio input to the A/D input terminal and synchronizes the Motion Sequencer and other functions, as well as an envelope follower function that generates control information from audio signals, allowing you to enjoy performances with dynamic sound changes by making use of a variety of control sources.
In addition to the above, the MONTAGE M series also features further improvements in control performance, including dedicated controls for KEYBOARD HOLD and PORTAMENTO, and a RIBBON CONTROLLER that can also be used as a switch for up to five zones.
3. User interface that brings out the creativity of the player
Like the previous series, the MONTAGE M series has a touch panel in the center of the user interface that serves as the main screen, and the addition of a “display knob” and “NAVIGATION” button at the bottom of the screen allows you to efficiently cover everything from selecting sounds to detailed editing. In addition, a new sub-screen “Second Display” has been added. This displays important synthesizer parameters such as the AN-X oscillator, filter, FM frequency, operator level, and effect parameters, allowing you to instantly edit the sound.
The “PAGE JUMP” button is located on the right of the sub screen. It allows you to instantly display and access more detailed information about the parameter selected on the sub screen on the main screen. The user interface, which allows for faster and more intuitive sound creation and control, brings out the creativity of the player.
4. High-quality keyboards that can distinguish between the subtle nuances of touch
The 61-key MONTAGE M6 and 76-key MONTAGE M7 feature the FSX keyboard (with channel aftertouch), a high-quality keyboard for flagship synthesizers. Furthermore, the 88-key model “MONTAGE M8x” uses the newly developed “Graded hammer with Enhanced eXpression (GEX) keyboard”. This keyboard uses a new keyboard sensor to achieve “polyphonic aftertouch”, which gives each key independent tone changes. For a comfortable playing feel, the white keys have a high moisture absorption rate, and the ebony-style black keys are made of ebony.
Both keyboards are high-quality keyboards that can distinguish subtle nuances of touch, and the keyboard touch and sound have been carefully matched to make the most of the “Motion Control Synthesis Engine” sound source system, which excels in expressiveness.
5. A software synthesizer that reproduces all of the sound engine of the MONTAGE M is available (available from 2024).
The MONTAGE M series includes a download code for the “EXPANDED SOFTSYNTH PLUGIN for MONTAGE M” clone software synthesizer, which strengthens the link between live and music production. The download is scheduled to begin in early 2024 with v1.0 (with limited editing functions), and v2.0 (full-function version) is scheduled to be released in the summer of the same year.
