The Atlas i8 is a high-end studio monitor that maximizes the effects and potential of the precise acoustic engineering of the clock and interface that brings together Antelope Audio's cutting-edge technology to achieve unparalleled sound precision in any studio environment.
■Studio monitor
■Pair
Featuring an isobaric approach with two 8-inch woofers, coaxial mid- and high-frequency drivers, and a custom D-class 400W amplifier, the Atlas i8 delivers accurate audio reproduction between 35Hz and 20,000Hz at up to 117dB SPL.
A custom digital processing system with an FPGA chip boosts performance, enabling neutral frequency response and linear phasing. The result is precise, pinpoint sound for a fatigue-free listening experience. DSP also provides features that make daily studio work more comfortable.
Isobaric method
The Atlas i8 features two identical 8-inch woofers sealed in an isobaric arrangement, one placed behind the other and moving in sync. The air pressure from the first woofer is supplemented by the movement of the second woofer, creating a sealed volume with equal pressure levels. Typically, achieving lower frequencies requires a larger cabinet volume, but by using this isobaric design, the cabinet volume can be significantly reduced without sacrificing low-frequency performance. You can get up to 35Hz without boosting, ensuring minimal distortion and high sound pressure levels.
Calibration with FIR and IIR filters
To achieve a flat, time-aligned frequency response, a proprietary digital processing system operates inside an FPGA chip with FIR and IIR filters. This provides deeply focused stereo images, accurate transients, and tireless studio sessions. The Atlas i8 has been tuned during the manufacturing process and thoroughly tested for optimal performance. The DSP accomplishes a variety of functions, such as setting the Atlas i8 to reach deeper bass or applying a low cut so the speaker operates in 2-way mode.
Antelope's high-precision digital processing
The best of Antelope Audio's technology is integrated into the Atlas i8 studio monitors. The highest quality AD/DA converters and proprietary 64-bit Acoustically Focused Clocking technology, all internally running at a 192kHz sample rate, are designed to ensure no sound quality is compromised during conversion.
Single point source for midrange and high range
The coaxial design, where the midrange driver and tweeter operate as a single point source, improves phase coherence and allows you to position the Atlas i8 horizontally or vertically without worrying about comb filtering or high-frequency drop.
Features that enhance your workflow
Our in-house developed digital signal processing system introduces a variety of features that greatly improve studio operations. In addition to analog XLR/TRS inputs, it also features AES digital input and output, allowing you to daisy-chain two Atlas i8 speakers. Additionally, digital connections bypass conversions at the interface, effectively reducing unwanted artifacts.
A color display on the back of the Atlas i8 provides easy access to a variety of settings, including dim, mute, volume control, preset storage, EQ adjustment, and multiple speaker modes to suit different work situations. To further enhance the stereo image and sound balance, a delay offset setting can optionally compensate for distance differences between the sweet spots of two or more monitors.
Additionally, a user-friendly software control panel provides easy access to all settings and allows users to maintain an ideal listening position in front of their computer.
Elaborate cabinet design
The hand-assembled cabinet is 18mm (approximately 0.71 inches) thick and has a vibration-free, sturdy construction. Reinforcements have been added at key points inside the box to reduce resonant frequencies. Its volume and bass reflex port have been calculated to perfectly match the characteristics and needs of the two 8-inch woofers, ensuring optimal frequency response and phasing. By placing the bass reflex in the front, we eliminate the constraints of being close to walls or corners. For those looking for versatile installation options, an optional mounting plate facilitates wall/ceiling installation and is also ideal for Surround and Atoms setups.
A minimalist visual approach of stylish black and vintage green completes the Atlas i8 design.
