The ZEN Air DAC is a USB-DAC amplifier that redesigns the circuit from the ground up to provide sound quality comparable to that of the ZEN DAC, but at an even lower price.
■Like ZEN DAC, ZEN Air DAC is equipped with high-quality headphone amplifier that can drive any headphones and earphones. As a DAC/preamp, it can also output RCA to an amplifier and speakers, or active speakers. Connect to a PC, Mac, smart device, etc. via USB to raise the sound quality of digital sources to a higher level.
Like the ZEN DAC, the core technology of the DAC is custom technology such as custom-made XMOS firmware and digital filters, iFi's GMT clock system as a jitter countermeasure, and the Burr-Brown DAC chip and True Native architecture that iFi uses for its natural sound quality. Adopt a combination of
■PCM supports 32bit/384kHz, and also supports DXD, DSD64, 128, and 256. The Burr-Brown chip's True Native design allows PCM and DSD to follow separate paths, allowing both PCM and DSD to remain "bit-perfect" in their native form. It also supports the MQA renderer.
The analog stage of the ZEN Air DAC is at this price point thanks to its symmetrical channel layout, ultra-low noise custom op amps, and audiophile-grade circuitry including low-impedance power rails with low-ESR inductors from Taiyo Yuden and Murata Manufacturing. It is of very high quality.
■Like the ZEN DAC, the ZEN Air DAC's headphone amplifier features a switchable gain that iFi calls PowerMatch. By adjusting the input sensitivity and gain, the drive level is achieved according to the headphone load.
With high sensitivity headphones such as in-ear monitors, turn off PowerMatch for ultra-low noise performance. If your headphones need more power, turning PowerMatch on will give you plenty of output power.
■XBass+ is a sophisticated "base boost" that subtly enhances low frequencies without muddying the midrange. Rather than processing digital signals in the DSP, this feature works entirely in the analog domain and can be turned on/off with a button on the front.
■ZEN Air DAC has a 6.3mm headphone output on the front, an Asynchronous USB Type B input on the back, and a gold-plated stereo RCA output (with variable level control). The sound quality of the ZEN Air DAC is extremely close to the single-ended output of the ZEN DAC, not only for headphones, but also for output to amplifiers and speakers. It has come true.
*ZEN Air DAC operates on USB bus power, but a separate AC adapter is required when combining with a smartphone or when seeking higher sound quality. Buy a 5V (2.1mm/5.5mm) AC adapter like the iFi iPower II 5V.
