You can also use the auto-fill function to liven up your beats and add more variety. You can also recall another song from memory without interrupting the song, so you can play an entire set from start to finish using the RD-8.

The RD-8 features a powerful step sequencer, offering a vastly improved workflow over the original. The 64-step sequencer also includes storage for up to 256 patterns and 16 songs, allowing you to create a variety of song arrangements, from simple to highly complex.

■Wave Designer and dual-mode filter
The Wave Designer has individual attack and sustain controls that can be applied to each voice, taking your drum beats to another dimension. You can create virtually unlimited amazing sounds by controlling them from the Wave Designer. In addition, the RD-8's flexible dual-mode 12dB filter button allows you to switch between LPF and HPF, control the cutoff frequency and resonance, and create your beats. And these information can be recorded directly into the sequencer and further tweaked using the step editor.

■The Numbers
RD-8 has 29 knobs, 5 switches, and 59 buttons, all laid out in a way that makes beat creation intuitive and fun. Input and output connections include: Headphone out, mono audio out, return, USB MIDI terminal, MIDI IN/OUT/THRU, and 11 voice out outputs for multitrack recording.
Three trigger outs allow you to control external synths and hardware sequencers to create songs without a DAW.
You can also send and receive clock information to synchronize with external devices.

■Parameter Linkage
The RD-8's encoders allow you to chain each parameter, so you can make the parameter function globally or switch between songs and patterns. Parameters include tempo, swing, flam, probability, independent track mute/solo, FX bus assignment, filter mode, and sweep that supports real-time control.
