This 2-channel high-end AD/DA converter from RME can output in a variety of formats, including SPDIF, AES/EBU, and ADAT.
■AD/DA Converter
The ADI-2 FS is a precision, compact, two-channel high-end AD/DA converter. It provides high-performance AD/DA conversion up to 192 kHz for SPDIF, AES, and ADAT. The analog inputs utilize the advanced circuit design of the acclaimed ADI-2 Pro, achieving exceptionally low noise, distortion, and frequency response. Furthermore, it features the latest RME clock technology, ""SteadyClock FS,"" which suppresses jitter with femtosecond accuracy, ensuring superior sound quality regardless of the reference clock quality. The ADI-2 FS also inherits the conversion technology from the ADI-2 Pro. The AK557x and AK4490 chips provide a 192 kHz sampling frequency, low distortion, and a dynamic range of 120 dBA.
When the input selection is set to DIG (digital), the device functions as a digital format converter with monitoring capabilities. The AD converter is disabled, and the DA converter is used for monitoring the digital input signal, rear output, and headphone output. Conversion between SPDIF coaxial (or AES) and all formats, including professional and consumer-grade ADAT, is possible. The ""Analog Bypass"" function connects the analog output circuit directly to the analog input circuit, allowing the ADI-2 FS to be used as an analog preamplifier. It can also be used as a balanced to unbalanced converter.
The ADI-2 FS features a powerful headphone output that exceeds the proven high-power headphone output found in many RME interfaces. With 0.45W per channel, 0.1 Ω output impedance, a maximum output level of +19dBu, and extremely low THD, the new-generation high-power circuitry ensures optimal performance with most headphones, including IEMs (in-ear monitors). A relay allows click-free on/off switching.
Power is provided via the included external switching power supply, making it ideal for development and measurement applications requiring galvanic isolation.
