This tremolo reproduces the sound of early tremolo effects that used tube power amplifiers, while also providing a modern, clear, high-resolution tone.
The tremolo effect is nothing more than a volume fluctuating, and is uninteresting. It's an effect exclusive to surf music and machine guns. It may be an extreme example, but perhaps this is how the tremolo effect is imagined.
Compared to modulation effects that add intense undulations or feedback, the tremolo effect is certainly a simpler effect.
The basic structure of a tremolo effect is to raise and lower the volume of the input signal in accordance with a waveform generated by an LFO. If you were to seriously recreate this structure in a compact effects pedal, you would end up with a ""boring"" tremolo effect.
The tremolo effects built into the earliest tube amps generated the tremolo effect in a way that depended on the amp's structure itself. In particular, the power tube tremolo, which perfected the so-called ""tremolo effect,"" retained its overall structure of raising and lowering the volume in accordance with an LFO, but varied the bias current of the tube power amp to ""raise and lower the volume.""
As a result, the tremolo effect of vintage tube amps has an indescribable flavor. It's a completely different sound from ""serious"" tremolo effects that simply change volume up and down in an inorganic way. Its beautiful sound has many guitarists around the world who can't live without the tremolo effect of vintage amps.
One Control Tiger Lily Tremolo is a tremolo effect that recreates the sound of tremolo effects that use early tube power amps while also providing a modern, clear, high-resolution tone.
Many ""serious"" tremolo effects set the LFO to a triangle or square wave to achieve a clean volume change or a more intense tremolo effect.
The ""gentle"" sound unique to vintage tremolo effects can only be achieved with a sine wave. The Tiger Lily Tremolo's LFO generates a sine wave, just like the ones used in vintage amps of the past. The LFO is a major factor in Tiger Lily Tremolo's unique texture; light application creates a gentle, smooth tremolo effect, while deep application doesn't interfere with playing.
Of course, simply setting the LFO to a sine wave doesn't instantly produce a vintage tone. This is because sine waves are more difficult to control freely than triangle or square waves. Whether it ends up being a ""soft tremolo"" or reaches the realm of ""superb vintage tremolo"" is where your sense comes into play.
Tiger Lily Tremolo is tuned using BJF's intuition and ear. It produces an organic, vivid tremolo sound, with each individual vibration seemingly alive.
The Amplitude knob also allows for more precise control of the waveform. Setting the Amplitude knob low eliminates any vibrations at all. This, along with a slight boost, creates a slightly warmer tone. Increasing the Amplitude changes the sound from a continuous tremolo to a more intense tremolo sound. By combining the Amplitude and Depth knob settings, you can create a variety of tremolo sounds.
The Tiger Lily Tremolo recreates vintage tremolo effects, but it's not a perfect reproduction of every detail. For example, tremolos using vintage tube power amps are essentially sine wave tremolo effects, but as the driver saturates, they approach a square wave.
This is undoubtedly one of the unique characteristics of vintage tremolo, but it can also be difficult to handle.
The Tiger Lily Tremolo maintains a sine wave tremolo at all times thanks to its wide dynamic range and high headroom. This allows it to reproduce the sound of vintage tremolo effects while simultaneously achieving modern, high-resolution sound.
It doesn't stand out among the high-quality sound of modern amps and studio equipment, and at the same time, it has a presence not found in other tremolo pedals. This tone was created with BJF's sensibility.
It's perfect for active use in modern scenes, as well as for surf music using today's equipment.
The Tiger Lily Tremolo's wide dynamic range and high headroom allow it to instantly create distinctive Tiger Lily Tremolo tones, compatible with a variety of guitar, bass, and amp styles.
This versatility also comes into play when combined with distortion. The Tiger Lily Tremolo can be placed either before or after the distortion effect, regardless of the order in which you connect it. Pairing it with the Prussian Blue Reverb and placing the Tiger Lily Tremolo after the reverb will bring back the classic surf music sound.
Furthermore, the Tiger Lily Tremolo's sound quality also benefits from BJF's unique tuning. Its clear yet soft, high-resolution texture is characteristic. By setting the Amplitude knob low and eliminating distortion, it can also be used as a buffer/preamp to create a softer tone.
The Tiger Lily Tremolo also features a PHASE switch. Switching the PHASE switch reverses the phase and lowers the output impedance.
While this switch barely changes the tone of the basic effect, it is an important switch when using it in combination with an effects loop or studio equipment. Try playing the sound and select the mode that sounds best to your ears.
By default, PHASE is set to OFF.
