By layering a thin nickel layer on the surface of the steel strings, we achieve a smooth and comfortable playing feel. This eliminates the image of steel strings as being ""stiff and high tension."" The nickel layer also provides excellent magnetic properties that blend well with guitar pickups, providing excellent response and sustain. They are particularly well-suited to rock and heavy metal styles.
