This VOCU distortion pedal features two gain stages: PRE GAIN and POST GAIN. It distorts the loud low frequencies with PRE GAIN, and other frequencies with POST GAIN. It features well-balanced distortion and a clear sound. It also comes with a high-cut filter, allowing you to intuitively create your favorite sound.

■Generally, stringed instruments use thicker bass strings than treble strings, resulting in greater amplitude and higher level for the bass strings. With a single-stage distortion, increasing the gain saturates the bass range, which has a larger amplitude, before the mid- and high-frequency ranges. This results in a loss of bass before the desired overall distortion is achieved. This unit's pre-gain distortion is used to add distortion to the point where the bass is not lost, and then distorts again in the post-gain stage, resulting in premium distortion that is hard but maintains all frequencies.
■Signal Flow and Usage Tips: The signal flows from pre-gain to high-cut filter to post-gain. Because the sound distorted by the pre-gain contains many harmonics, the high-cut filter cuts out unwanted harmonics before passing the signal to the post-gain. When using both pre-gain and post-gain together, the amount of distortion and harmonic content (high frequencies) can be varied by changing the combination of the two knobs. The most conventional setting is to set the pre-gain to around 10:00-12:00, the high-cut to MAX, and the post-gain to your preferred position between 10:00 and 12:00. If there is not enough distortion, increase the post-gain; if the high frequencies seem lacking, turn the high-cut filter clockwise or decrease the post-gain.
■Caution! Setting the two gains higher than necessary can generate feedback within the circuit, resulting in feedback-like symptoms when you are not playing. If this occurs, reduce each gain appropriately. Keep the two gain knobs at positions that are symmetrical even at maximum distortion settings (for example, if Pre Gain is at 2 o'clock, then Post Gain should be at 10 o'clock; if Post Gain is at 3 o'clock, then Pre Gain should be at 9 o'clock).
■You can also set one knob to minimum and obtain a variety of distortion effects by adjusting the gain of the other knob alone. Experiment repeatedly to enjoy the various distortion sounds this unit produces.
