Combine classic 8-operator FM synthesis with VA synthesis, extensive modulators, freehand-drawn multi-stage envelopes, effects, and an arpeggiator to create a new dimension in digital synthesis.

Algorithm Designer
Create your own FM algorithms. Each operator can modulate itself or other operators, with feedforward and feedback settings. Easily establish connections with junction gain settings, and the carrier can be panned. Save your custom algorithms as sub-presets.

Find Your Favorite Algorithm
Browse a wide range of FM algorithms, from Yamaha's legendary DX7 and TX81Z to the latest FM-X engine, using the Algorithm Finder. You can filter by icon, number of operators, serial/parallel, and other criteria.

Multi-Stage Envelopes
FM Lab's pitch, filter, and amp envelopes are fully customizable. Draw curves freehand with the pen or brush tool, easily creating vibrant, rhythmic curves. You can also combine them with 48 preset curves. Shaper mode lets you cycle through multi-stage envelopes in sync with the host DAW tempo.

FM Lab Development Story
Steinberg's HALion team wanted to recreate legendary FM synthesizers while building a new, unconventional FM synthesis environment within HALion. Combining FM with HALion's powerful VA (virtual analog) synthesis and a modern user interface, FM Lab enables you to create a wide range of sounds, from classic FM to cutting-edge tones. The result is a software synth library that takes advantage of the unique features of both the original hardware and the VSTi, embodying Yamaha's original concept of ""you don't need to program to play.""
