Over the years, we've had many different types of Marshall amplifiers on our bench, some for repair and some for customization.
As big fans of the sound of this classic amp that continues to thrill us through the music of so many artists, we decided to capture its mojo, the essence of its sonic soul, and carefully package it into a small box. And thus Room #40 was born! Using JFET technology, we sought to stay true to the tone and feel of the legendary Marshall amp:
Non-master volume series PLEXI? Super Lead (1959/1987) & Super Bass (1992), master volume series JMP? & JCM800? (2203/2204). We focused on emulating the compression and sag that comes out of the power amp section when these amps are pushed to the limit, while giving us access to two famous mods, Mod #39 (PLEXI?) and Mod #34 (JMP? & JCM800?). Of course, this attempt is an expression of our love for the late, great Eddie Van Halen, who created the so-called ""Brown sound"" using the Ohmite Variac (a variable transformer that lowers or increases the voltage going into the amplifier). Finally, we've included a presence control so you can adjust the sound in any situation, with or without a bright cap, or when connected directly to a power amp.
