Black Clouds is the embodiment of what we envision a lead tone pedal should be. It is aggressive and articulate, yet surprisingly quiet using the X-Gate feature.
Feeling like an amplifier, Black Clouds is capable of producing amazing chugging sounds.
It features a noise gate to chop up breakdowns, a powerful 3-band EQ, plenty of gain, a dual boost function for additional gain and volume, and three operating modes that can be adjusted to suit your setup.
PRE BOOST: Controls the amount of INPUT boost from 0 to 30 dB. Adds a slight mid-boost to increase intelligibility. Use this mode when you want to increase gain and compression when using the boost function. This control will not function if the pedal is bypassed.
GAIN: Controls gain from crunch to high gain.
LEVEL: Controls the output volume.
MASTER BOOST: Sets the amount of output clean boost from 0 to 20 dB. Use this to increase the volume when using the boost function.
This control works even when the pedal is bypassed and can be used as an independent clean booster.
PRE TONE: Balances the amount of treble or bass entering the drive circuit and compensates for various pickup characteristics to achieve a consistent tone.
Clockwise rotation suppresses low frequencies and emphasizes high frequencies (tighter, more aggressive chug). Counterclockwise rotation emphasizes the low frequencies and suppresses the highs (thicker, richer single line). Great for finding the right balance of tightness without losing too much of the pickup's body.
BASS: Controls low frequencies below 300 Hz at +- 10 dB.
MID: controls the midrange response between 300 and 2 kHz at +-12 dB.
TREBLE: controls high frequencies above 2 kHz at +-15 dB.
X-GATE Switch: X-Gate is a passive noise gate that instantly isolates silent noise.
It is ideal for percussive breakdown of Djenty.
It also adds another layer of texture to the tone by adding crossover distortion.
MODE Switch: Selects the output mode.
Normal mode: Transparent, with sparkling highs and firm lows. Ideal for old school lead guitar tones.
Preamp mode: Ideal for connecting the unit directly to a power amp or cabinet simulator without losing the treble, with plenty of volume to drive a power amp to the required volume.
Mid Boost mode: Boosts the midrange and smoothes out the treble for a warmer, more resonant tone. Ideal for modern lead tones.
