Known as Brian May's favorite instrument, the "Red Special", there is a workshop in Japan that produced this official signature model: Kz Guitar Works. Kz Guitar Works and KarDiaN have collaborated to develop a top-quality treble booster.
The concept is a treble booster that can be mounted on a guitar, but the sound is of the highest vintage quality.
Onboard gear tends to focus on the gimmicky part of "mounting. This in itself is not bad at all, in fact, it is a legitimate evolution of the gear. However, I think of it as a fuzz, not like a treble booster. Can a fuzz respond linearly when the volume on the guitar side is turned down, for example? When combined with an amp, can it sound musically with an exquisite amount of information from top to bottom? I believe this is the true nature of this fuzz, or treble booster.
The "Kz TREBLE BOOSTER ONBOARD" we have developed this time has three points that we have focused on for its sound. First, even though it is a silicon transistor, it follows volume and picking as sensitively as a germanium transistor. Silicon transistors are highly stable and resistant to noise due to their characteristics. However, silicon transistors have a different kind of sound essence when amplified compared to germanium transistors. There is a romantic or actual sound change there. (Of course, there are also the advantages and romance of silicon transistors.) However, we have succeeded in designing this onboard transistor to have the sound essence of germanium characteristics, even though it is a silicon transistor. Try turning down the volume on the guitar side. You will be surprised at the change in sound.
Secondly, there is a range switching switch, which is not found in vintage treble boosters. You may find it in some reproduced pedal type treble boosters, but it is rare to find it onboard. This range switch allows you to adjust the balance between the low and high frequency output of the amp and the pedal, and it also contributes to the original distortion and nuance of the sound.
Finally, there is thorough noise reduction. What I found in vintage treble boosters was a lot of noise. Of course, noise is part of the flavor, and if you are going to eliminate noise, it is better to coexist with noise than to lose the high quality of the sound. Therefore, I aimed to reduce the noise without losing the quality by reviewing the power supply and its routing separately from the signal line. Furthermore, by taking advantage of silicon transistors, I was able to create a magic amplifier that has the texture of a germanium transistor and the noise immunity of a silicon transistor.
Although the treble booster genre is well-known, many guitarists may actually be new to it. We have developed gear that is thoroughly on-site and sound enjoyable for such people, so please give it a try. We are confident that we can offer you new sound possibilities.
- CHARACTER MODULE SERIES
The Character Module Series (CMS), the backbone of the Kz TREBLE BOOSTER ONBOARD, is characterized by its "built-in battery mechanism" and "socket replacement. Thanks to this small housing, a 9V battery of the so-called 006P type (approx. 50 x 26 mm) can be stored in the CMS with only a few modifications. Furthermore, the "Kz TREBLE BOOSTER ONBOARD" can be interchanged with other CMS products in the socket without any additional modifications.
This allows you to experience the new playing experience of a character module with as little modification to your precious guitar as possible.
