D'Angelico / Excel EXL-1 Throwback Viola

D'Angelico's Excel EXL-1 Throwback is an original single cutaway archtop hollow body model that is 17 inches (431.8 mm) wide and 3 inches (76.2 mm) thick.

The pickguard is made of MacArthur ebony and features an original shape that is characteristic of D'Angelico, with a flag print that imitates the 1930s model created by John D'Angelico.
The body top, headstock and neck are decorated with binding, and the 1930s design is combined with full-fret mother-of-pearl block position markers.
The body top is spruce, the sides and back are flame maple, and the maple/walnut/maple neck has an ebony fingerboard.
The scale is 25.5 inches, and the neck is a three-piece structure with walnut sandwiched between maple, which is resistant to warping and twisting.
The neck joint is a uniquely designed "set-through" neck joint.
In addition, it is equipped with a dual action truss rod that is adjusted on the head side.
The distinctive headstock design inherits the tradition of D'Angelico.
The truss rod cover is made of aluminum, and its striking design is inspired by the skyscrapers of New York City, where Art Deco architecture (such as the Empire State Building) was popular around 1930.
