ZEN Phono 3 provides a gateway to the rich, warm sound vinyl enthusiasts yearn for, amidst the excitement of limited release and limited production treasures. With enhanced features and a clever warp filter, ZEN Phono 3 lets you dig deeper into your record collection, uncovering hidden nuances and rediscovering your favorite classics with unparalleled clarity.
■Conventional subsonic filters often impair musicality by filtering both the rumbling noise from warped records and the low frequencies essential to the song. But ZEN Phono 3's AI subsonic filter sets a new standard of excellence by selectively filtering out warping noise while preserving musical integrity, ensuring every note is heard exactly as the artist intended.
■Normal subsonic filters are not smart. The iFi AI subsonic filter recognizes the difference between these two, the low-frequency noise caused by warping and the low-frequency range of music, and removes only the noise caused by warping, leaving the low-frequency range of the music intact.
■Most records are cut with a reverse RIAA (recording) equalizer, and must be restored to their original state when played. ZEN Phono 3's RIAA (reproduction) equalization curve has an incredible tolerance of ±0.15dB, ensuring true and accurate music reproduction.
■ZEN Phono 3 also boasts an EIN (input equivalent noise) of -151dBV, which is -20dB quieter than some top-class phono equalizers with -131dBV. ZEN Phono 3 is equipped with a state-of-the-art 1.2MHz power supply in an isolated ""island"" dedicated to the power circuit, so it does not introduce noise into the amplification stage.
■ZEN Phono 3's balance circuit uses surface mount components of unusual quality for an entry-level design. For example, capacitors used include TDK C0G, muRata multilayer ceramic type, and Panasonic ECPU polyphenylene sulfide film type. None of them are cheap, but their class-leading ESL (Equivalent Series Resistance) and individual part characteristics such as high stability and low distortion offer significant advantages in terms of sound quality and accuracy of RIAA equalizers.
■ZEN Phono 3, like many iFi products, has a built-in custom OV series operational amplifier, this time the OVA2637. This operational amplifier has ultra-low distortion (0.0001%) and contributes significantly to price-breaking audio performance.
■The best phono equalizers on the market create their own power source like a generator from a household power source to amplify the audio signal from the cartridge without adding noise.
■ZEN Phono 3 achieves this goal by generating power with a 1.2MHz switching frequency, which is approximately 20,000 times the frequency of a household power supply, instead of using traditional methods. In this circuit, a filter capacitor rated at 10uF is equivalent to 200,000uF at the low end. The power circuit is placed in an isolated ""island"" on the circuit board, so there is no contamination of the audio signal, just a very clean +/-12V DC power supply.
■ZEN Phono 3 is an exception among exceptions regarding gain settings. It offers a wide range of gain settings from 36dB to 72dB, an impressive feature even for a much more expensive phono stage. There are a total of four gain settings: 36dB (MM), 48dB (high output MC), 60dB (low output MC), and 72dB (ultra low output MC). This allows ZEN Phono 3 to support MC cartridges with unusual specifications.
■A new feature of ZEN Phono 3 is a sophisticated load adjustment button on the front panel. This allows the load capacitance and load resistance settings to be changed independently of the gain settings. There are two capacitive load settings (100pF/200pF) for MM and MC High, and three load resistance settings (100/400/1kOhm) for MC Low and MC V-Low. This kind of customization is unprecedented at this price point, allowing users to best match their ZEN Phono 3 and cartridge.
■The rear panel of ZEN Phono 3 is equipped with standard stereo RCA inputs and outputs that are gold-plated to optimize signal transmission, as well as a 4.4mm balanced output, which is rare for phono equalizers. This can be used to connect to equipment with a 4.4mm balanced input, like the one found on ZEN CAN, or an XLR balanced line input via a 4.4mm balanced to XLR adapter.
■This allows for a fully balanced connection that takes full advantage of the ZEN Phono 3's balance circuit. No other phono equalizer in this price range offers balanced output functionality. By connecting the turntable's ground wire, you can avoid ground loop problems that can cause hum.
■ZEN Phono 3 has even been designed to ensure sound transparency, even the way you switch settings. It's handled by a microcontroller that only ""wakes up"" when a setting is changed, avoiding electronic noise that can negatively affect the sound.
・Compatible with both MM/MC cartridges: Variable settings for gain, load resistance, and load capacity from 36dB to 72dB ensure compatibility with a wide range of cartridges*
・Equipped with an AI subsonic filter: This is not a general filter that cuts low frequencies, but intelligently removes only the ultra-low frequencies caused by warping that is not related to music.
・Overwhelmingly low noise = EIN (input equivalent noise) -151dBV: Guaranteed super silent noise floor that is 20dBV higher than some top class phono amplifiers.
- Accurate RIAA equalizer and balanced output rivals the performance of 1000 USD class products
・The internal circuit is operated by the latest 1.2MHz switching power supply: Virtual operation is equivalent to the LC filter of the legendary vacuum tube phono amplifier.
・Phono input: RCA
・Line output: 4.4mm balanced, RCA
・Maximum rated output:
4.4mm balance:
