However, getting the Mutron sound was not without its problems.
Huge dedicated adaptors, overly sensitive controls and volume changes when turned on and off, and the high price tag due to the rarity and high popularity of the original model...

3Leaf Audio's Proton Sakura Edition is an envelope filter that achieves the vintage Mutron sound, but removes a number of additional obstacles.
It runs on a standard centre-minus DC9 power supply and does not change volume when turned on. And above all, it delivers a funky sound.

The simple control layout makes it easy to create that sound without any hesitation.

■ Controls
Response: adjusts the response of the filter to the playing dynamics. Start with this control set to minimum and gradually increase it from there to find the right point for your equipment.

Peak: Adjusts the ‘wetness’ of the filter sound. Higher settings produce more aggressive sweeps and sharper response peaks.

Decay: Adjusts the length of the filter sweep. Higher settings cause the filter to move slowly, resulting in a natural envelope sound. When set low, the filter moves quickly for a ‘bubbly’ sound.

Tone: Sets the maximum cut-off for the filter frequency. It can be used like the tone knob on a guitar or bass, with a high setting for treble and a low setting for lows.

Sweep switch: switches the direction of the filter sweep. The up position gives a normal sweep, while the down position gives a reverse sweep. When this switch is toggled, the tone should be readjusted using Gain and Decay.

Range switch: toggles the depth of filtering.

Footswitch: silent true bypass switch with relay switch. During performance, it is automatically bypassed when the power supply stops.
