In the north, in an undeveloped, high forested area, mysterious treefolk have ruled since prehistoric times. It is said that at the first new moon of spring, the 'sound' could be heard as the treefolk nurtured the young trees, grafting fragments of their own branches and passing them on to the next generation.

The new generation has inherited the 'vitality' that the previous generations have spun out over time.
These 'sounds' were both very old and very new. Yes, they were called... the Fable.
The Fable creates a new sonic adventure with its five granular delay programmes, based around sample and chop algorithms.
Get ready to explore deep, rich and strangely beautiful textures.

■ Controls.
・Feedback : Controls the amount of gain in the first feedback pass.
・Regen (Regeneration): controls the amount of gain in the second feedback pass.
・Mod (Modulation): controls the amount of modulation applied to the wet signal.
・Mix: controls the amount of wet/dry mix.
・x : Controls the grain size (length of the chopped sample) of the granular effect.
・time: controls the delay and granular buffer size (length of buffer from which particles are sampled).
・Tone: Controls the output signal and feedback loop filtering.
・Power supply: 9VDC centre-minus (adapter only), 300mA minimum.

Granular is a microsampling digital processing technique whereby short samples called grains ('grains') are read from a delay buffer.
Fable allows these 'grains' to be adjusted by manipulating the sampling length, position and buffer size from which they are read.
They can be played back at double or half speed for pitch shift or time stretch effects, played backwards or read from multiple positions for a variety of magical effects.


Fable employs two analogue feedback paths in each programme that create a unique mix of effected feedback and original feedback combined.
The two feedback paths interact and are organically structured to provide a wide range of sound and effect experimentation.


FABLE has five custom programmes, each centred around a sample and chop delay.

I. Reverse Delay into Reverse Granular
Programme 1 is a reverse delay into which the sampled 'grain' is played backwards by the Reverse Granular algorithm.
The feedback paths woven between the 'reverse playback' and the 're'-reverse playback' change the sound image in a complex and organic way.
Decreasing the size of the 'grain' (X knob) produces a long, smooth effect of a temporary reverse playback, while increasing the size produces an insane and unusually jam-packed reverse playback effect.

II. Forward Delay into Octave Up Granular
Programme 2 gives a forward delay into a granular programme on the octave where the 'grain' is played back at double speed.
The 'swarm' of doubled speed sounds weaves a feedback path into a bright and light waterfall of sound.

III. Analog-Style Delay into Octave Down Granular
Programme 3 gives a warm, dark analogue-style delay into a granular programme down the octave played backwards at half speed.
The decelerated repeats combine with the analogue processing to create deep thunderous footsteps and thick, muddy ambience.

IV. Multi-Tap Granular into Multi-Tap Granular (Grain-Verb)
Programme 4 consists of two Multi-Tap Granular algorithms which, in turn, play multiple samples from each granular buffer simultaneously.
Multiple points of the sampled sound are created with each other in the feedback path, creating an unusual 'cloud' (filter) and a unique, organic reverb.
The time knob controls the time stretch of both granular algorithms in this programme, varying the length and tonal character of both granular effects.

V. Forward Delay into Randomised Pitch Granular
Programme 5 gives the Forward Delay into a Randomised Pitch Granular programme that plays the sampled sound at double speed with pitch up, half speed with pitch down, normal speed with normal playback and reverse playback in reverse.
The pitch of the sampled sound is variable each time it is played back, so try changing the rate of the randomised pitch modulation with the X knob.
