The SG was born in 1961 with a full model change of Les Paul, and has been used by Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Robby Krieger (Doors), George Harrison, Dickey Betts (Allman Brothers Band), Gary Rossington (Reynard Skinard), etc, The guitar has been used by many legendary guitarists.

In addition to the innovative looks of its ultra-thin, hand-crafted, delicately machined, beveled body and lightweight, easy-to-handle operation, this guitar excels with a clean tone that rises well, a drive tone with an edge, and a versatile sound suitable for slide play. There are many players who are attracted by the high fretboard playability of the double cutaway and continue to play SG exclusively out of love for it.

The 1961 SG Standard Reissue by Gibson Custom Shop is a clone based on the early version with “Les Paul” on the truss rod cover. It features the top-of-the-line specs of solid mahogany, hide glue, vintage replica parts, and a cherry finish with a three-dimensional look and feel, achieved by using the red tint of the eye-stopping agent.
