The Wren and Cuff EYE SEE '78 FULL-SIZE SPECIAL is a pedal that reproduces the original size of the IC Muff fuzz pedal made in 1978.
Wren and Cuff released the definitive “non-transistor” fuzz box, the Eye See '78, in 2014. Due to popular demand, an original-size version has now been completed.
In 1978, the circuit of the vintage muffler was significantly redesigned. It did not use transistors but used an Opamp (integrated circuit, or IC), and so it came to be called an IC muffler or Opamp muffler. This variation was only manufactured for two years.
The EYE SEE '78 FULL-SIZE SPECIAL carefully reproduces the original vintage sound. It is that monstrous, “woofy” vintage tone that can be heard on the famous original model used by the Siameses Dream.
While many vintage muffs have a sweeter tone, the IC muffs are characterized by their crisp, powerful tone.
The EYE SEE '78 FULL-SIZE SPECIAL is a reproduction of the original “V4” circuit, but it also has an added “V5” circuit tone bypass switch. The tone bypass circuit removes the passive tone stack (TONE knob) from the circuit, which makes the mids and volume stronger and the sound more open and raw. When the TONE BYPASS is turned on, the TONE knob is disabled, but the sound is so cool that you won't want to miss it.
The EYE SEE '78 FULL-SIZE SPECIAL uses 100% through-hole components and specially selected ICs on a vintage tone-style circuit board.
There are also “secret adjustments” inside that allow you to tailor the tone to your liking.
Wren and Cuff's attention to detail doesn't stop at the circuitry and components. We contacted two LA-based companies to create a sturdy, foldable steel enclosure.
