Both are very high-quality passive equalizers with custom inductors and tone capacitors, patented by Western Electric, but the PEQ-2 has a sharper, tighter response, making it better suited for use on mix buses where sagging sounds can ruin the result.

Low-shelf boost can be selected from eight frequencies: 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, 120, 160, and 240 Hz, with up to 16 dB of boost.
Low-shelf droop can be selected from four frequencies: 25, 50, 100, and 200 Hz, providing up to 18 dB of cut.
High Peak Boost can be selected from eight frequencies: 2.5, 3.75, 5, 7.5, 10, 12, 15, and 20 kHz, providing up to 21-12.5 dB of boost*.
