Kirk Hammett's 1979 Flying V is a familiar guitar to Metallica fans the world over. The guitar was Kirk's first Gibson, and one that established his passion for Gibson guitars. The purchase was inspired by a well-known Flying V player Kirk admired at the time and his desire for a fuller sound.
Kirk still plays that original guitar and used it on all the early Metallica albums, including Kill ‘Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, . .and Justice for All’ and “The Black Album”, and used it on all of Metallica's early albums. Kirk's Flying V has earned a reputation as one of the most important guitars in heavy metal.
Now Epiphone, in association with Gibson Custom Shop, is releasing the Epiphone Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V, a meticulous recreation of Kirk's original guitar. It features a mahogany body, one-piece mahogany neck with volute, Grover Rotomatic machine heads with ‘spade’ buttons and a custom bridge.
