If you've loved music with low-down tuned guitars over the past 30 years, you may have heard this hot tone used for heavy riffs and drills. The Catalinbread CARBIDE is a devastating distortion pedal that captures the “chainsaw sound” of the once cranked HM-2.

CARBIDE strongly boosts certain frequency bands, creating a chainsaw sound. This is synonymous with the sound you get when all the knobs on the HM-2 are turned up to maximum.
CARBIDE builds on that, but adjusts most of the distortion circuitry to create an even zippier and more destructive sound.
CARBIDE splits the signal path into two, one for a powerful clean boost and the other for distortion. The clean boost is specially configured for low-down tuning. Each signal path has a separate volume control for mixing at will, and the EMP knob is Emphasis, which cuts the high frequencies while tightening the low end and bringing the boosted frequency range forward.

Controls
DRY and WET: Adjusts the volume of boost (DRY) and distortion (WET) separately.
The original HM-2 has L and H “Color Mix” knobs; L controls 87Hz, H controls 958Hz and 1279Hz, and CARBIDE keeps the boost in those three bands, but the EMP knob cuts the surrounding frequencies for more clarity. The EMP controls the 63Hz and treble shelving filter simultaneously. This gives you simultaneous control of the high and low frequencies.

Power Supply
CARBIDE accepts a 9-15V center-minus DC power supply. Basically, it is powered by a 9V DC negative-center adapter. Batteries cannot be used.
