ASHDOWN / VELVET COMP

VELVET COMP is a compression pedal designed to make bass sounds silky smooth. Gain, ratio, and threshold are all adjusted in sync with the "COMPACT" knob, while attack and decay are preset to optimize the passing signal.

To get the most out of this unit, it should be set so that the volume changes as little as possible when the pedal is turned on and off. This can be done by adjusting the "INPUT" and "OUTPUT" level controls.

The "INPUT" rotary control has a 3-band (white, blue, red) LED meter to assist you in setting the proper input level before applying the compressor. The correct level is maintained when the meters are lit blue. If the red LED is lit constantly, the input is too high, and the "INPUT" level should be turned down until it is at the correct level. Once the input signal is at the proper level, use the "OUTPUT" control to set the output to the amp. Once the level is set properly, use the "COMPACT" knob to control the compression while maintaining dynamics and keeping the sound constant.

Some simple bass compressors do not control the compression of the treble or bass strings well, but the VELVET COMP accurately represents the entire bandwidth.
