The Citadel is an EAE-style take on the sound of a British amp: a preamp/overdrive filled with lyrical textures.
Citadel is a preamp-style overdrive inspired by the sound of British guitar amps from the 1960s and 1970s, which have been passed down to the present day.
It is not a recreation of a specific model but encompasses what EAE considers to be the best elements from various generations.
An amp-in-a-box style OD pedal. A preamp for connection to a clean power amp.
A device for direct recording without an amp.
The Citadel's extremely high headroom and powerful output make it incredibly versatile.
Not only can it output a sweet drive when combined with an amp, but it can also take distortion and fuzz in front of it to an even higher level.
The sound character that embodies the rock sound that one would expect from a British amp is expressed with a subtle and emotional quality that only EAE can achieve.
This is a special drive pedal that will push the definition of "amp-like" to new heights.
Controls
Bright Gain: Adds a chimey, sparkling voicing gain in clockwork parallel. High settings add bite to the drive tone, while 0 mutes it completely.
Normal Gain: Adds gain to dark, full-bodied voicings arranged in parallel, clockwise. Higher settings make the sound thicker, and 0 completely mutes it.
Bass, Midrange, Treble: This is a 3-band, FMV (Fender/Marshall/Vox) style tone stack. The mid scoops are moderately scooped, just like a real amp, and have a familiar texture. The midrange is maxed out, and Bass and Treble are set to 0 for a more typical guitar pedal-like flat voicing.
Master: Sets the overall output volume. The output volume can be loud enough to drive an external power amp while still maintaining a clean setting.
