Sonore: resonant, rich in tone.
Rather than concentrating solely on flashy dynamics, we set out to recreate a section of trumpet and horn that maximizes tone and body.
In the mezzo-forte dynamic, you will notice a more expansive, more open sound that takes up more space in the mix. We chose an exceptional articulation for the melody.
One of our biggest influences and inspirations is the organic process of orchestral music employed by great film composers.
Recorded on the legendary MGM Scoring Stage at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles, these ensembles have also significantly improved their legato.
In the control room, we patched the same preamp setup that is still installed there today. For the reverb unit, a Lexicon 480 was used, and a reverb patch was adjusted. This patch is what "THE" patch was called in the 90s recordings, and it is very classic-sounding and instantly recognizable as such.
The most exciting part of this recipe, sonically, is the use of the Avalon 2055. This subtle Class A discrete stereo hardware EQ colors the high-end in the most unique and hi-fi way imaginable. Replacing other mastering EQs, this box is a gem. When used correctly, it adds unimaginable luster to overtones, and when not used correctly, it can bring out the harshest sound possible.
