Voices of War - Men of the North is a low-voiced male choir sample library that covers everything ""Viking"". This top-of-the-line VST plug-in features a wide collection of ambience, atmosphere, drones, pads, legato, word-making, and texture patches recorded at the legendary MGM Scoring Stage at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles.

As the ""swords and sandals/dragons"" genre continues to spread globally across television, games, movies, and more, composers must always have the right color samples to score these scenes.

- Old Norse Vocals on the MGM Scoring Stage
We enlisted the help of a linguist well versed in Old Norse, the native language of the Vikings.

The vocabulary in this library is made up of words related to war, nature, and gods, the polar opposite of the Latin-based fake words employed by many word builders.

The Sony Scoring Stage's dense early reflections smooth out transients and harmonize the timbre with its signature dark, transparent tone. A set of full-spectrum ""enhanced"" stereo mixes is included, allowing you to achieve that familiar cinematic sound without the use of third-party processing.

Ambient tribal/cinematic colors

In contrast to Voxos, Men of the North turns the dial on a specific style of cinematic singing in a chromatic (sotto/mezzo voce) and understated style.

Special care was taken to get a truly blended timbre that is perfect for pads and drones, but also capable of carrying word-based melodies in a strong mezzo forte. With the modulation wheel set to 50-75, this library can provide enough color that a simple unison or holding 5th can be a cue in itself. The choral colors never open up to the formality that could be called classic. They maintain a carefully selected quasi-warrior (non-professional singer) timbre that is perfect for this style.


Neumann KU100 ""Fritz"" mixing preset

Men of the North is a must-have for any video game composer. A unique head-mounted microphone, the KU100, nicknamed ""Fritz,"" was placed directly in the middle of the choir with the singers positioned in a semicircle around it. The KU100's unique binaural capabilities, combined with headphones, immerse the listener in a true 360° perspective that simulates the human listening experience. Perfect for interactive video game audio engines and perspective listening.

Morph Patches, Word Building and Chanting, Legato

Our morph patches utilize the ensemble's long, blended vowel morphs. This subtle movement coats the timbre with an oily film on the surface of the water, different from static whole notes, something that can only be created by actually recording them.

Men of the North's word building engine is specifically built to deliver Nordic-sounding phrases without the effort of traditional world building. Just play and the words will change automatically. It's a word builder without the effort.
