The Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 is a new digital instrument that lets you play in a variety of styles. It's the world's first MIDI controller that not only strums like a guitar, but also lets you slide, tap, and finger-drum.

The INSTRUMENT 1 is designed to be played in a variety of positions. If you're a guitarist, you can hold the INSTRUMENT 1 while sitting, or use the INSTRUMENT 1 strap to play standing up. You can also hold the INSTRUMENT 1 vertically, like a cellist. Beatmakers and finger drummers can place the INSTRUMENT 1 on a desk and use it as a familiar grid surface. And you can even play the INSTRUMENT 1 by clipping it to your neck like a violin.

Guitar, bass, cello, violin, or banjo. Want to play various sound sources using the techniques of your favorite instruments? Absolutely! INSTRUMENT 1 not only offers a variety of tuning presets, but also lets you individually tune each string. You can even create unique open-tuned instruments.

No experience playing an instrument? No problem. INSTRUMENT 1's special design allows you to produce sound by simply pressing the keys like a regular keyboard, making it easy for anyone to enjoy playing right away. Even if you can't hold down chords, the ""Smart Strum"" function lets you strum chords with one finger or play arpeggios. There's also a tuning function that allows you to intuitively play instruments by producing notes within a specified scale no matter where you play.

INSTRUMENT 1 comes with eight preset instruments, including guitar, violin, piano, and drums. (You can also store an infinite number of custom instruments using Mac, Windows, iPhone, or iPad.) Four of the slots allow you to save your own custom instruments. By saving modes, methods, and tunings, the INSTRUMENT 1 also functions as a powerful MIDI controller for digital audio workstations (DAWs) like Logic Pro X, Garageband, Ableton Live, Reason, Cubase, and Pro Tools, as well as plug-ins like Kontakt and Serum.

You can create custom instruments using the free Artiphon INSTRUMENT 1 Editor app for iOS and Mac/Windows.

By adopting a fretboard shape that's sensitive to pressure and velocity, the INSTRUMENT 1 enables new expressive possibilities not previously available on MIDI keyboards. You can also apply vibrato (modulation) to specific fingers after a note-on. Just like guitarists do, you can apply vertical pressure to specific fingers to apply choking (pitch bend) to that finger (note).
