RME / MADI Converter

The RME/MADI Converter is a MADI digital audio stream converter. It converts from optical to coaxial and from coaxial to optical. It is a compact 19""/1U unit and provides six completely independent bidirectional converters.

■ MADI Optical/MADI Coaxial Converter, 6 Channels

The MADI Converter is ideal for use with the RME MADI Bridge. It converts the six built-in coaxial inputs and outputs to optical, making it extremely convenient for long-distance transmission in live performances or installations. When two MADI Bridges and MADI Converters are stacked in parallel, the coaxial BNC input and output terminals of the two devices are positioned exactly perpendicular to each other, allowing connection with the shortest possible BNC coaxial cables.

Compatible with all MADI Signals
All 12 inputs feature status LEDs on the front panel. The MADI Converter supports all formats, including 56/64 channels, special invisible control commands, all sampling rates, and even data rates outside the MADI protocol specification and invalid data. Input signals pass through the device completely unchanged. Special equalization and a highly sensitive input stage allow for coaxial cable runs up to 100 meters long, even between multiple devices.

MADI Solution

MADI transmits 64 channels of audio data over a single cable (optical or coaxial). Optical cable can transmit up to 2000 meters, saving costs compared to analog cables and ensuring no degradation in sound quality.

The MADI Bridge is compatible with MADI products from all manufacturers, making it a perfect match for the RME MADI series.


MADI Details

MIDI Distributor

The MADI Converter features a 1-3 MIDI distributor, copying all MIDI data input to the MIDI input terminal to three MIDI outputs. This eliminates the need for a separate external MIDI distributor.

High-Performance Switching Power Supply

A specially developed internal high-performance switching power supply allows the MADI Converter to operate over a voltage range of 100 to 240 AC Volts. The short-circuit protection and built-in line filter protect against voltage fluctuations and suppress power outlet interference.
Use with a MADI Bridge
The MADI Converter is even more effective when used in conjunction with an RME MADI Bridge. The MADI Converter converts the MADI Bridge's six coaxial and optical inputs/outputs. Using a MADI Bridge and MADI Converter together allows for longer cable runs, which is particularly advantageous in live stage and sound installations. In this combination, the MADI Bridge provides eight optical inputs and outputs. The MADI Bridge and MADI Converter are designed to work together. When two MADI Bridges and MADI Converters are stacked in parallel, the coaxial BNC input/output terminals of the two devices are positioned exactly perpendicular to each other, allowing connection with the shortest possible BNC coaxial cables. Thanks to the precisely designed input/output terminal arrangement, cables do not cross, maintaining a perfect overview.
