Like a compressor?
What does Intensity do in the background? It's best to think of it like an unlimited-band compressor. It has a zero-time constant and is AI-controlled at audio rates, essentially tweaking the process with just one knob.

■Not a compressor?
However, this description is completely inaccurate, as INTENSITY is not a compressor and approaches things in a completely different way. It has no RMS detection, threshold, ratio, attack/release times, or pumping or modulation in any other way. It does not overshoot, and it works regardless of absolute value or input type. That said, the ""compressor"" analogy is useful in giving an idea of how and why it can be used.
