■Analog Synthesizer
Doepfer's ""Dark Energy III"" is an analog monophonic synthesizer with MIDI, USB MIDI, and CV/Gate control. Housed in a compact, robust tabletop chassis, it features analog circuits that produce rich analog sounds and digital circuits that allow for unrestricted control, making it suitable for integration into any system. Its semi-modular design allows for immediate play with the basic internal connections. Furthermore, the front and rear panels offer CV/Gate and audio inputs/outputs, allowing for patch cables to be used to change the basic connections or combine it with other analog synthesizers.
The sound generator section, with a simple configuration of 1 VCO, 1 VCF, 1 VCA, 2 LFOs, and 1 ADSR, offers a wide range of control, enabling the creation of a wide variety of sounds, from floor-shaking fat bass sounds and clear lead sounds to drones and intense noise sounds. Version III includes several updates, including a change to a triangle wave core for the VCO and the addition of an LFO reset input, broadening the range of sounds possible.
Control can be played with a MIDI keyboard, connected directly to a computer via USB cable for playback with sequencer software, or used in conjunction with a modular synthesizer using the CV/Gate input. It can be integrated with a variety of systems.
The MS-404 synth module, released in the 1990s as an analog TB-303 clone, has since become a successor to the Dark Energy series, which has completely moved beyond the realm of 303 clones and established a solid, unique position among synthesizer enthusiasts.
