The V.12, nicknamed the Silver Box, is more durable and has a fuller sound than the Traditional (Blue Box). This model is popular with intermediate and advanced players who have become accustomed to playing clarinet. The base of the reed is thicker and the surface has a gentle curve.

■Both the heel and tip are thicker than those of the blue-box reeds.
■The longer palette (the scraped section of the reed) produces rich overtones.

■Each reed is individually film-wrapped in a plastic holder. After opening, store reeds in a separately sold reed case to help prevent warping.
