This API microphone preamp is compatible with the API 500 series. It is designed for microphones, lines, and instruments. It provides up to 65dB of high gain and supports microphone inputs on the front and rear panels.

The API 512V is a mic/line/instrument preamp.

High gain up to 65dB

Variable output level control

3:1 output transformer switch (when switched on, the winding ratio changes from the default 1:1 to 3:1, reducing the output level by 9.5dB while maintaining sound quality)

Front and rear panel mic inputs

Line/instrument gain up to 45dB

Front panel combo XLR + 1/4-inch line/instrument input

LED VU meter for output level monitoring

20dB pad switch for mic/line/instrument

Built-in 48V phantom power (switchable)

Traditional API discrete circuit design

Uses API's original 2520 op amp

お気に入りのマイクプリです。

色々なマイクプリを使用してますが、ロック系のギター、ベース、スネアを録音する時は本機をファーストチョイスで使用します。
個人的にAPIのマイクプリは特に「オンマイク」でこそ実力を発揮できると思ってます。300シリーズの方が録り音の音域が広く感じにますが（特に高域の広がり方）、狙いたい音がはっきりしてる場合は本機は本当に使いやすく、ゴールに辿り着きやすいです。
512cと違い、APIの肝である「2520」が2つ搭載されてるので、よく世間で言われている「乾いた、明瞭な音」が、より感じられます。（512cも所有してます）
Input、Outputがあるのでより細かな調整ができ、「3:1」スイッチはいまいち使いこなせてませんが（笑）、マイクさえ上手く立てればEQも特には必要無く、DTMerの方はオンマイクで録音する場合がほとんどでしょうから、お勧めします。
最後に、Rupert NeveのシャーシよりAPIのシャーシにラッキングした方が元気な音になり
ます。御参考下さい。
