NORDSTRAND PICKUP / nj5s neck or bridge

The NJ5 is a redesign of the NJ4 for 5-string basses. It offers excellent low-B reproduction and a well-balanced sound. While the basic sound of this model is the same as the NJ5, this pickup features noise cancellation. The single-coil pickups feature a stacked construction. In addition to the classic sound, they deliver the balanced, rich tone required for a 5-string bass.

The NJ5S Model shares the same basic sound characteristics as the NJ5, but features a split structure for noise reduction. It's also designed as a full-size replacement pickup for 5-string basses.

While the character of a stacked pickup may differ slightly from that of a standard one, Carey's complete control over this difference allows us to create either a purely single-coil pickup with noise-canceling capabilities by employing a stacked structure, or a pickup with additional features, like the NJ5F. The NJ5S is the former, offering a classic character while also providing the balanced, rich tone required for the modern 5-string bass.
