Released in 1980, the Random Tone Generator ""RTG"" has been reissued as one of Electro-Harmonix's most obscure effects pedals. It generates random oscillating tones like ""beep,"" ""poo,"" and ""woo."" The Rate control adjusts the time it takes for the tone to change. Setting the switch to the Glide position allows for smooth pitch changes, altering the effect. Connecting other effects pedals allows for even more unique effects.

■The original RTG, released in 1980, is one of the most incomprehensible products in Electro-Harmonix's history. As the name ""Random Tone Generator"" suggests, it simply generates random oscillating tones like ""beep,"" ""poo,"" and ""woo."" The new RTG features an LED, so you can immediately see the ON/OFF status. It's also more compact than the previous model.
■To use it, simply press the footswitch. It generates random, successive oscillating tones. The oscillating tones range from 20Hz to 1kHz, covering roughly five octaves. The RATE control adjusts the time it takes for the tones to change. The interval is between 5 and 0.1 seconds. When you set the switch to the GLIDE position, the pitch changes smoothly, giving it a B-grade sci-fi movie feel.
