The Purple Octopus Octave Up is a simple analog octave up effect. Its sound is a little unusual and unpredictable. It adds an octave to single notes, and chords produce a synth-like square wave sound. The pedal's output exceeds unity gain, allowing it to be used to push an amp during solos. Its compact 5.0cm x 5.0cm housing makes it easy to fit on a pedalboard. The pedal can be turned on/off by pressing the footswitch. The LED indicator lights up when the pedal is on. When the effect is off, the circuit is completely removed from the signal (true bypass). The Purple Octopus Octave Up contains a single internal trimmer. This controls the volume. The factory setting is near unity gain.
The trimmer's left and right movement may be reversed depending on the batch. There is no difference in tone, but please check the movement of the trimmer on your pedal while adjusting it. The Purple Octopus Octave Up circuit produces the clearest octave-up sound around the 9th to 15th frets, especially with the neck pickup. You can create very interesting sounds with pickups in other positions, but if you're looking for a ring modulator-like sound, it's a good idea to start creating the sound around this area.
