The Emerald Prince Preamp is an analog preamp pedal based on the preamp circuit of the legendary EP3 Echoplex tape echo unit. Its preamp adds a touch of sensitivity to your guitar sound, fattens single notes, and provides a distinct midrange character for clearer distortion. Many players use the EP3 unit on stage without an echo, allowing them to work their magic with the preamp section. Since the echo unit is placed at the end of the signal chain, before the amplifier, many players often use pedals inspired by the EP3 in the same position. The Emerald Prince Preamp is effective both immediately before the amplifier and at the beginning of the pedal chain. It delivers the touch-sensitive feel of a passive pickup. Connecting the Emerald Prince Preamp immediately before low-impedance, line-level equipment can result in a darker, quieter tone. This is because the Emerald Prince Preamp's circuitry is designed for high-impedance inputs. If you find the sound too dark, you can brighten it by placing the Emerald Prince Preamp before a buffered bypass pedal or by placing a dedicated buffer after the Emerald Prince Preamp. Its extremely small 5.0cm x 5.0cm housing makes it easy to fit on a pedalboard. The pedal can be turned on/off by pressing the footswitch. When the pedal is on, the LED indicator lights up. When the effect is off, the circuit is completely removed from the signal (true bypass).
The Emerald Prince Preamp is equipped with one internal trimmer and mini-switch. The trimmer controls the volume, ranging from mute to approximately +3dB boost. Unity gain is located around 9 o'clock, and maximum volume is reached around 12 o'clock. Setting it around 12 o'clock can slightly change the tonal characteristics. The mini-switch toggles between two different eras of the EP3 sound. It acts like a bright switch, with the high end being crisper in the ON position and slightly reduced in the OFF position.
